Post-Basic Haemodialysis Nursing Programme is a programme whereby registered staff nurses may develop skills; knowledge and attitude which makes them part of a safe, effective, efficient and caring team.

RM 6,500.00 (A non-refundable deposit of RM500.00 is payable within 14 days from the letter of acceptance from NKF as per usual)

Period of training is 6 months

Entry Requirements
  • Registered with the Nursing Board Malaysia.

  • Possess a current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) for nurses.

  • Minimum two (2) years clinical working experience.

  • Possess three (3) months experience in haemodialysis.

  • The candidate must be certified medically fit by a registered medical practitioner within one (1) month from commencement of the programme.

  • The candidate with any of the following medical conditions cannot be admitted into the programme such as:

    1. HIV / AIDS

    2. Hepatitis B

    3. Hepatitis C

    4. Mental health disorders

    5. Epilepsy

    6. Colour blindness

  • The candidate must not have any physical disabilities or impaired senses that hinder nursing dexterity.

  • Pregnancy is not allowed throughout the course.

  • The candidate must have full secondment and a form of endorsement from their relevant authority, which must be attached with the applications.

  • Applied renal physiology

  • Principles of dialysis

  • Haemodialysis procedure and nursing care

  • Infection control

  • Dietary aspects and chronic haemodialysis

  • Rehabilitative aspects on chronic haemodialysis

  • Ethical issues in dialysis

  • Principles of management

  • Basic Helping skills in counselling

  • Adequacy of dialysis

  • Water treatment and its short-term and long-term complications

Since the course kicked-off in 2005, there are about 900 staff nurses and assistant medical officers who have successfully completed the course with 100% passes to date.


Activity Highlights
  • Clinical experience will be gained primarily at NKF centres under local preceptors. An educational visit to water treatment plant will also be arranged for the students.

  • Attachment to government hospitals under the Ministry of Health of Malaysia for 2 weeks.

Upon course completion, Certificate of Post Basic Haemodialysis Nursing will be awarded.
