In order to maintain the standard and quality of dialysis care, NKF set up its Training Unit in August 2003 to provide training to existing dialysis assistants, nurses and medical assistants working not only in NKF but at dialysis centres throughout the country.(currently 384, comprised of NGOs, government run and private centres).
With the number of patients on dialysis increasing rapidly, the main aim of the NKF Training Unit is to continually enhance the professionalism of dialysis centre staff in serving its patients.
Initially, the Training Division comprised of part-time staff but this has grown to 2 full time and 2 part-time staff conducting 2 programs annually, the Dialysis Assistant Course and the Post Basic Haemodialysis Nursing Course.
While the Dialysis Assistant Course is conducted twice annually, the Post Basic Course for paramedics runs for four months once a year and thus far the courses have had full enrolment.
