Aim of the Post Basic Haemodialysis Nursing Course

To develop skills, knowledge and attitude of registered staff nurses and medical assistants, which make them part of a safe, effective and caring dialysis team.

Duration

Period of training is 4 months

Venue

The Secretariat, Petaling Jaya

Entry Requirements

  • Must be a registered staff nurse/medical assistant, preferably with 6 months working experience in a haemodialysis unit.
  • Must have full secondment and a form of endorsement from their relevant authority.
  • Hepatitis Status – must be negative

 Course subjects

  • Applied renal physiology
  • Principles of dialysis
  • Haemodialysis procedure and nursing care
  • Infection control
  • Dietary aspects and chronic haemodialysis
  • Rehabilitative aspects on chronic haemodialysis
  • Ethical issues in dialysis
  • Principles of management
  • Counselling skills
  • Water treatment and its short-term and long-term complications

Activity Highlights

  • Clinical experience will be gained primarily at NKF centres under local preceptors. Visit to a water treatment plant and an RO water treatment system factory.

Certificate of competence awarded with course and for both courses, ‘Outstanding Student’ awarded.
