Lions Club of PJ Metro- “Back to School 2010”

The project was organized by K Group & Associates, in association with Guan Di Temple, supported by Lions Club of PJ Metro.
A total of 34 patients and 62 children from NKF benefited from this event, which cost
RM 18,600.00 for school uniforms, track suits, school bags, shoes and socks. In addition, each child was given two angpows on the spot.
The children and parents were happy and thankful for such a wonderful day.

The peace poster contest
The Lions Club of PJ Metro has successfully held their Annual International Peace Poster Contest 2009 / 2010, Children Coloring & Bottle Painting Contest on 11 October 2009 (Sunday), at South City Plaza, Seri Kembangan.
There were two categories for the coloring contest, 8 years old and below and 9 to 12 years old, while the bottle painting contest was opened to the public. All the proceeds were contributed to NKF.
Our heartfelt appreciation to the Lions Club of PJ Metro for giving us an opportunity to have this fundraising activities. Total funds raised through this event was RM165.00.

YOUTH DAY
(LEO CLUB OF SMK LA SALLE KLANG)
The member's of the Leo Club of SMK La Salle Klang organised a "Youth Day" event to raise funds in aid of NKF. The event was held on 18th July 2009 at Klang Executive Club and raised RM500.00.
On 26th September 2009, the Leo members and teacher advisor visited Bakti - NKF Dialysis Centre, Klang. A mock cheque was presented and certificate of appreciation given.

"TASTE OF LOVE" CAMPAIGN
Shirley Koh, Director, Fundraising Department, NKF invited her close friends for her 25th Wedding Anniversary celebration, held on 27th September 2009 at the CUBES Restaurant, Jaya One. With only ten days to go, Shirley wanted to share the special moment with her close friends.
September being the month Shirley and David tied the knot of love 25 years ago, the event was celebrated with joy and happiness. Shirley and David have been pillars of love for each other and 25 years was just another date for them. With 85 of her closest friends, they were blessed with many more years of happiness.
For those present, a gift of love from Shirley and David as well as free flow of wine to cheer the joyful atmosphere were all they needed. Many showered the couple with words of praise for their many charitable contributions to society. The final act of charity for the night was the contribution of Rm9,580 to NKF for the benefit of those in great need of it.
Shirley and David would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who attended for their presents and presence, making the night a memorable one for all. For those who could not make it but still sent in their gift of love, it is much appreciated.

HONORABLE MEMBER YB DATIN PADUKA CHEW MEI FUN
On 19/09/2009, YB Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, presented a mock cheque for RM100,000 to NKF, representing an anonymous donor, as financial assistance for dialysis patients. This would benefit 36 dialysis patients for their transport and dialysis fees at Ping Rong - NKF Dialysis Centre. Children from the Chempaka Welfare Home were also the beneficiaries. There were free vaccinations given for the influenza to those present at the function.

When residents from Seri Setia Old Folks Home, received haircut from hairstylists of Take Two Hair Studio, as part of a charity event organised by the members of the Lions Club of PJ Metro, it made them realised that there were still caring Malaysians in the community.
The idea behind was to create a fun-filled charity day for the benefit of residents if the Seri Setia Old Folks Home, Sungei Way and the dialysis patients from the Ping Rong - NKF Dialysis Centre, Petaling Jaya.
Many of these folks have been living in the home for the past 40 years and this event turned out to be an exciting fun filled day for them, such event is regularly organized by the Lions Club.
Among the many activities organized for the day was an eye screening test carried out by Optimax. 30 person screened, 5 were found to have cataract problems and were referred for further action.
The highlight for the day, a singing performance by Gary Chee, Apple Kho, and other artiste, who sang their way into the hearts of all the old folks and dialysis patients, many of whom joined in, making the event a memorable one.
As part of the day's activities, lunch was also served. Sundry items were contributed to the home. The inmates and patients are happy and thankful for such a wonderful day.

When Joel Tan founded the Urban Groove Dance Network in 2004, one of the pioneers of original STREET AND URBAN DANCE styles, little did he imagine his work would benefit a foundation for dialysis patients.
The ‘Get Groovin wit Urban Groove’ Charity Dance Concert held on Saturday, 11th July 2009 organized by Lions Club of PJ Metro and supported by Urban Groove Dance Network, raised RM 15,000 in aid of The National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia’s poor dialysis patients at Galaxy Global Business Park, Section 19, PJ.
Shirley Koh, Fundraising Director, NKF, said it was a ‘full house’ and with more than 400 teenagers in attendance, it was exciting to see the 80 performers as well as guest artistes from other states, perform to an appreciative audience who responded to each dance move by clapping and cheering.
“For us, this event is an exciting partnership as young people can be educated on the importance of kidneys and a healthy lifestyle, while enjoying themselves. Most importantly, through their performance they are able to raise fund and GIVE HOPE to those in need – 1,200 kidney patients in NKF 23 dialysis centres nationwide.” said Shirley, who hoped other organizations would come forward to join NKF in other fundraising events.
NKF appreciates all guest artistes, who travelled from outstation to participate in the event.

The Leo Club of Monash University had a fundraising through the “Health Awareness Week” held in their University by selling NKF ribbons to the students, asking them to write messages for NKF patients and stick onto a kidneys shape board.
Besides ribbons selling, the Leo members also raised funds through NKF merchandize such as the Bean Mug, Nextemp Thermometer, postcards and bus magnets.

A Charity Motor Hunt was organized by Lions Club of PJ City in aid of NKF. The hunt started from Selangor right down to Malacca. 25 cars participated in the treasure hunt. The participants were required to find answers for 40 questions and 5 treasures along the hunt. It was an enjoyable hunt indeed.

10 finalists from various Leo Clubs of Region 4 competed in the final round of the Leo Idol. Leo Christopher Saw from Leo Club of SMK Taman SEA emerged champion. This young Leo has unearthed his hidden talent.

The LEO IDOL Grand Finals brings out the best performance by all 5 finalists - Gini, Chris, Andrew, Sophia & Jeremy. Far away fans, family members and supporters from Penang & Perak were seen with banners, flags and board to support the finalists. Leo Jeremy Goh from Leo Club of Anderson Ipoh emerged champion from the tough competition.
NKF teen ambassador, Azizi Zakaria was also there as invited guest and belted out his new song “Kamu Semua” to the crowd.
