Our gratitude to the Squash Club of INTI International University College which organized a Charity Squashaton in aid of NKF. A game played continuously for 68 hours with participation fees of RM10.00 per person donated to NKF. They have successfully made it into the Malaysia Book of Record for being the longest non-stop squash marathon record. Congratulations!
“Colourful Flavours” Food & Fun Fair 2008

What will you be doing on a Sunday morning? Do you care enough for others and yourself?
For some people, they decided to join NKF in the fundraising project started at 9.00am on 12th October 2008 at the Boulevard, 3 Two Square, Section 19 Petaling Jaya. Themed “Colourful Flavours” Food & Fun Fair aimed to raise fund to subsidized treatment fee for the poor & needy kidney failure patients of NKF.
Thanks to Crest Builder Holdings Berhad for sponsoring the venue, canopies, tables & chairs. A variety of food drinks & games made up the 32 booths for the day. The NKF LifeCheck Mobile Unit was there to provide free health screening to the public. This is in line with NKF mission to provide education & increase the awareness of the public about chronic Kidney Disease.
NKF are much honored to have the MP of Petaling Jaya Utara, YB Tony Pua to lauch the event. YB urged the public to be more alert for their personal health as well as to do charity as long as they can afford. One does not need to contribute in monetary terms, but to contribute their time by volunteering to help.
The overwhelming support from the sponsors and members of the public helped NKF exceeds its target and raised RM 66,868.00. Our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all caring individuals and companies who contributed fully to the cooking and preparation of food, organizing of games and sponsorship of their products.

Charity Musical Drama

The Chinese Cultural Society of HELP University organized a Charity Musical Drama which successfully raised RM 200.00 for NKF. Each ticket was sold for RM15 where RM5 of every ticket sold was donated to NKF. Thank you for your kind contributions which will go a long way for NKF’s poor and needy dialysis patients.

Sri Kuala Lumpur Donated a Dialysis Machine
Sri Kuala Lumpur donated a Dialysis Machine worth RM40,000.00 on 13th August 2008 which is based in Bakti – NKF Klang centre.

Lions Club of Serdang – “WE are 1” Charity Nite
The Lions Club of Serdang organised a Charity Nite with a title “We are 1” on the 13th September 2008. While some prefer to celebrate Mooncake Festivals at home, some however celebrate it differently this year. People from all walks of life came together to celebrate mooncake festival as well as doing some charity that night. NKF is one of the beneficiary from the Charity Nite. Lions Club of Serdang donated RM 10,000.00 to NKF.

ldquo;The Gift of Love” mooncake campaign ended with the support of 380 boxes by our caring donors of NKF which collected RM 7,220.00. The Lions Club of George Town through the Lions Club of George Town Perdana raised RM28,500.00 (1,500 boxes) and the funds are allocated to the Penang new centre.

Bird Quest Family Hunt 2008 organized by Lions Club of PJ City

Bird Quest Family Hunt 2008
The event was held to raise funds for NKF and Bird Quest Club fund. A total of RM 5,205.35 was raised and RM 2,000 was contributed donated to NKF. NKF sponsored the stress ball, paper clips and packet drinks towards the goody bag. There was a total of 33 teams, each team consisting of 4 members, (2 adults and 2 students aged below 18). 9 stations for the participants to search for the answers. The first team finished at about 11.35am and the hunt ended at 12 noon. Two of our NKF staff Jamie and Angela from the fundraising department won the 2nd runner up prize. Overall it was an enjoyable and exciting hunt.
Wen Ken 70th Anniversary Event – Love and Gratitude

In conjunction with their 70th anniversary celebration. Syarikat Wen Ken Drugs Sdn Bhd, had a road show which showcased NKF’s activities including complimentary health screening at Atrium 1-Utama Shopping Centre (New Wing). Members of the public were encouraged to attend the talk and activities conducted by NKF on Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). The health-screening proved to be a hit with more than 900 being screened and RM 4,613.04 in collections from members of the public.
Games and other activities were conducted by the 988 channel DJ such as 3 legged water competition, 3 legged walk and staging of boxes. Besides there were also some coloring corners for children. Members of the public were encouraged to write “Gratitude and Love” message on the cards and hung on the tree. For every card hung, Wen Ken would contribute RM3.00 per card to NKF. Dr Sivashanker, Medical Director, NKF gave a health talk in both English and Bahasa Malaysia.
As a token of appreciation, NKF received a mock cheque of RM80,000, RM40,000 cash and RM40,000 value in-kind. In addition, a total of RM2,217.00 was received from the collection of the “Gratitude and Love” cards dedicated by members of the public.
Baba’s Festive Season – Christmas Programme for Year 2008

The National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia attended a television programme production show called “Baba’s Festive Season” in conjunction with Christmas Celebration for the year 2008. The show is being sponsored by Babas (M) Sdn Bhd for the festive season this year.
Four celebrities were chosen for this cooking competition with one chef for the cooking demonstration, held at Studio A, Vision New Media Petaling Jaya. It was a great fun watching all the celebrities who were in action at the studio kitchen. As part of this cooking competition, celebrities chosen as the best chef would win RM1,001 from Babas and the sum would then be donated to NKF.
Karen Ho, Personal Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer, represented NKF as a food-taster and a judge to taste the food cooked by the celebrities. Shirley Koh, Fundraising Director, NKF received the mock cheque of RM1,001.00 from the winner Roy Anslem.
Our sincere appreciation to Babas (M) Sdn Bhd and all the celebrities as well as Double Vision Sdn Bhd for making this possible and the programme will be shown over Christmas at RTM 1. Watch out!
Miss Malaysia Queen International 2008 (Selangor)
The Preliminary round (3rd May 2008) of Miss Selangor Queen International 2008 began with 28 beauties visiting the NKF Dialysis Centre in Section 14, P.J. Then, 30 vintage cars were escort by 4 Police outriders from NKF Dialysis Centre to Jaya 33, P.J. for the photo session. The fundraising activity that night raised RM 3690.00 where Ms Charlene Liew who raised the highest amount was announced as Miss NKF Charity Queen. Miss Kiwi See was announced the title as Miss Colin’s Queen. A total of 20 beauties were short-listed into the semi finals.
The Semi-finals sponsored by Galaxy Group of Companies were held in Global Business Park, P.J. on the 10th of May 2008. Three contests segment was held that night – Cocktail Wear, Swim Wear & Elegant Wear. A contribution of RM5503.00 was collected. Miss Stella Hui, one of the outspoken contestants was chosen as Miss Riso-Galaxy by the main sponsor, Galaxy Group of Companies. A total of 14 contestants were shortlisted into the finals.
The Final round was held at Sunway Convention Centre on the 24th of May 2008. It was an 8-course Chinese dinner based on the donation value of RM138, RM238, RM338 and RM500 per head.
The 14 finalists were not only beauty with brains but also beauty with talents. Five subsidiary titles were given out on that night. Miss La’Mode Sensual Hair Queen won by Ms. Eleen Yong, Miss Praise Slimming Queen won by Miss Sue Ann Yeam, Miss Congeniality Queen won by Ms. Kiwi See, Miss Talent Queen won by Miss Charlene Ong and Miss Photogenic won by Miss Queen Tan.
Highlights of the night were the Q&A sessions as it determined the winner of Miss Malaysia Queen International 2008 for the Selangor state. Miss Charlene Ong won the heart of not only the judges but also the audience and was crowned winner of Miss Malaysia Queen International 2008 (Selangor). Miss Chloe Yeam came in close as 1st Runner Up and Miss Stella Hui was announced 2nd Runner Up.
During that night, Dr. Gill, Chairman Board of Managers from NKF received two mock cheques. One mock cheque amounting RM6,333.00 was given by the Lions Club of PJ Metro to help the subsidy of Welfare Epoetin. Another mock cheque amounting RM100,000.00 was also given by Lions Club of PJ Metro for the total amount raised in this event. Congratulations!
It is a night to remember as the audiences are not only enjoying the pageant and the dinner but also does their part as society who cares and give a second chance to the end stage renal failure patient to live.

THAI BUDDHIST CHETAWAN TEMPLE DEVOTEES VISIT NKF

We are honoured to have Chief Reverend Phra Khru Sophitchariyaporn and Reverend Phra Khru Palad Woon together with 22 buddhist devotees lead by committee secretary, Datuk Sawai Boonchock from Wat Chetawan, PJ visited the NKF Headquarters in Petaling Jaya.
The group was given a briefing by Shirley Koh, Director, Fundraising Department on ‘Introduction of NKF and Prevention of Kidney Disease’ which gave a brief introduction of the foundation and further emphasized the work done by NKF in the area of early detection and prevention of kidney disease.
As part of their community efforts, Wat Chetawan contributed RM4000 from their fund to assist the needy dialysis patients. Shirley Koh, Fundraising Director received the cheque on behalf of NKF from Chief Reverend Phra Khru Sophitchariyaporn and a certificate of appreciation was presented from NKF to the wat. We also received a very encouraging response from all the devotees who attended the briefing, they have collected additional RM800 among themselves to add on the contribution by the wat earlier on.
We also have Mr Khoo Teng Leong & Mdm Tan Sor Im & family who also contributed RM1100 to NKF.

En. Ariffin Buranudeen (Supply Chain Director of Nestle) and family members / friends paid a visit to PJ Dialysis Centre on 12th April at 9.00am. They were greeted by Ms. Shirley Koh, Fundraising Director, National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia (NKF). They were briefed on the process of dialysis treatment where the patients have their dialysis treatments 3 times a week, 4 hours a session.
The group had a short chat with dialysis patients. The patients were pleased to share their experiences and feelings on their current condition.
At 10.00am, the visitors proceeded to the conference room where Shirley delivered her thank you speech and presented NKF mugs as a token of appreciation for their kind effort. This was followed by a short speech by En. Ariffin. The visitors not only gained knowledge but also a better understanding of NKF and its daily operations.

Within 3 weeks, Ariffin and friends (20 of them) managed to raise RM 37,000 for NKF to purchase a new machine to be placed at the Bakti Dialysis Centre in Klang.

The Lions Club of Petaling Jaya Mutiara held a bowling competition in aid of the National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia (NKF) at the Pin-Junction in Cineleisure Damansara on Sunday, 23rd of March 2008. People began filling in the place as early as 10am. Goody bags were given out upon registration.
At 10.35am the roll off was done by Fareen Ali, member of the Board of Managers, NKF. A total of 18 teams (4 in a team) started the competition which consisted of 3 rounds after 5 minutes of practice session.
A mock cheque amounting to RM6000 was presented by the Lions Club President, Lion Jamie Chen together with the Organizing Chairperson, Lion Nancy Soh to NKF representative, En. Fareen Ali. NKF also presented a token of appreciation to the Club President and the Organizing Chairperson. Prizes were then given out to 3 Best teams, 3 Best Ladies Bowler & 3 Best Man Bowler.

"Amazing Kidneys Walk"
World Kidney Day, on March 16th 2008, an event celebrated in more then 60 countries around the globe themed – “Amazing Kidneys!” – stressed the positive message that kidneys are truly “amazing”.
The National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia (NKF) organised an “Amazing Kidneys Walk” in conjunction with WKD 2008. This event filled with a series of activities focused on educating and enhancing the awareness of public on the importance of their kidneys.. NKF also used this opportunity to raise funds for the foundation which to help the poor and underprivileged kidney failure patients and their families.
This walk attracted 230 participants who joined us in the early morning at Taman Jaya Recreational Park. The program started off by a warm up exercise conducted by Mr Chong, a 60- year old volunteer who offered his aerobic expertise for this session. The walk was flagged off at 8am and the participants came from all walks of life included dialysis patients, children, young and old. There was also a lucky draw session for our participants after the walk.
NKF managed to raise about RM29,000 from this walk and we certainly hope that we will continue to organise such events in the future. We also would like to thank all volunteers who have helped us in this event.
Max One Marketing Visits NKF Dialysis Centre
A group of 20 visitors from Max-One Marketing was greeted by National Kidney Foundation Fundraising Director, Shirley Koh, and briefed by staff nurse Looi on how the patients go through the dialysis process 3 times a week, 4 hours a session. The group chatted with some of the patients, where the patient shared their experience and feelings towards their current condition.
At about 10.30am, the visitors proceed to the training centre for a talk on the work done by the National Kidney Foundation and information on prevention, causes and treatment to kidney failure. “It was an informative talk”, remarked the visitors. The visitors not only gained new knowledge but also a better understanding towards NKF operations, how the money is spent and public education on kidney care.
Lastly, Mr. Tan representing Max-One Marketing presented a mock cheque of RM10,000 to Mr. Wayne Woo, Chief Executive Officer of National Kidney Foundation. The contribution was collected within 18 days. A big thank you from NKF for their kind contribution and support!

JERNEH SPORTS CLUB & COMMUNITY VISITS NKF DIALYSIS CENTRE
In their brightly coloured tee-shirts, 14 members of the Jerneh Sports Club & Community visited the NKF Dialysis Centre in Petaling Jaya to familiarize themselves with the dialysis process and also meet up with the NKF Dialysis Centre Centre Manager, Siti Fatimah Bte Basir.
At the centre, they were shown around by Staff Nurse Siti who pointed out the various dialysis processes and the time involved in dialysis as well as a close up look at dialysis machines.
For most it was a first time experience and proved educational in providing information on the merits of prevention of kidney disease.
The 14 members were also given a briefing by Sharleen Lee, Manager, Public Education Department on ‘Introduction and Prevention of Kidney Disease’ which further emphasized the work done by NKF in the area of early detection and prevention of kidney disease.
As part of their community efforts, Jernih Sports Club contributed RM3239 from their various fundraising activities to assist the needy dialysis patients. Shirley Koh, Fundraising Director received the cheque on behalf of NKF from Jernih Sports Club & Community President, Ms Nini Juanita and a certificate of appreciation was presented from NKF to the club.
