NKF Charity Show 2005

The National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia had its first-ever ‘live’ TV show broadcast on NTV7 during the primetime evening slot on Sun 2 Oct 2005. The NKF Charity Show 2005 was a fundraiser with 3 targets; a new dialysis centre in Kota Bahru, Kelantan, the replacement of some 45 dialysis machines at a cost of RM40,000 each and the Children’s Dialysis Fund. In the audience at the Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands was guest of honour YB Datuk Tan Chai Ho, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, who shared the VIP seats with Mr Goh Seng Chuan, Chief Executive Officer and Mr Tai Lung Khoon, Honorary Treasurer of NKF.

The show showcased to the nation, the life-saving work of NKF in providing subsidised dialysis treatment to needy Malaysians suffering from end-stage kidney failure. Through the experience of 4 patients, including a 14-year-old boy, the audience at the Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands and at home learnt more about what life is like; financially, emotionally, socially, without the function of one of our body’s vital organs, the kidneys.

The three-and-a-half hour show showcased 30 artistes from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia, including Reshmonu, Maya Karin, Nam Hong, Joe Ma, Zheng Kum Cheong, Winnie Kok, Julia Pang, Candy Chia and Z-Chen who kept the audience entertained with song, comedy and illusion (magic show). Victor Wong, the show’s ambassador, also belted out the theme song There’s You (Shen Jai You Ni). More importantly, the stars were the driving force in urging Malaysians to pick up their phones and donate via text-message (SMS), TM fixed line and online via Maybank2u.

Despite the cold evening air of Genting Highlands, there was a warm feeling of gratitude among the kidney patients at the end of the NKF Charity Show 2005. Almost RM1mil was raised, thanks to the generosity of Malaysia!
