Belian Amal

As part of its corporate social responsibility program this year, SINGER Malaysia organised a mega trade-in promotion whereby net proceeds from the sale of trade-in items would be contributed to the Tabung Belain Amal SINGER. RM100,000 was raised from this innovative charity drive which was held from 15 Sept to 15 Nov 2004 with 5 charities including NKF receiving a contribution of RM20,000 each.
 
The cheque presentation was held on 7 Feb 2005 at Hilton Hotel, Petaling Jaya.
 
‘Music Brings Us Together’ Charity Concert
 

SRK Yuk Choy, Ipoh resounded with a repertoire of instrumental and vocal performances on the evening of 20 and 21 Nov 2004, in a charity concert which brought together musical talents from Ipoh and music enthusiasts under one roof. Organised by J’sic Music Centre and headed by its creative director Hew Siew Chin, the concert was an opportunity to use music as a charitable channel towards community service.

Among the performers were the choirs of SMJK Sam Tet and SMJK Ave Maria Convent Ipoh, violinist Chong Soon Yew who, in 3 years, attained Grade 8, and Alvin Chow, who passed Grade 5 in piano at the age of 7.

NKF received a contribution to the tune of RM10,700. The talents that shone during the concert were a glimmer of hope for the kidney patients of NKF and a testimony of the harmony of art and charity.

‘Lined Up for Charity’ Dinner by Lions Club of PJ Metro
 
 
The Lions Club of PJ Metro successfully raised 2 dialysis machines through this line dancing-themed charity dinner held on 9 October 2004 at Thean Hou Multipurpose Hall, KL. It was indeed a privilege to have Guest of honour, YB Chew Mei Fun, who is Parliamentary Secretary of the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry, witness the presentation.
The Lioness Club of Subang Jaya presented a mock cheque during the dinner for the NKF Patient Welfare Fund. Their contribution of RM2,340 will go towards sponsoring the dialysis treatment of two patients in severe financial difficulty.
 
 
Guests sat down to a sumptuous 8-course Chinese dinner while being entertained with performances by 3 line-dancing groups, Andy Law, the Malaysian Fei Yik Cheng, and other local artistes.
 
 
It was double joy for YB Chew who was conferred Honorary Member of the club that night. The Lions also took the opportunity to celebrate her birthday.

NKF Tai Thong Charity Mooncake Sale
NKF spread the joy of the recent Mid-Autumn Festival with Tai Thong mooncakes. The sale of 647 boxes, including 200 boxes sponsored by Tai Thong raised RM11,084.15. Many thanks to TT Resources Sdn Bhd and all who supported this project. Till the Mid-Autumn Festival next year!

Celebrating 5 years of successful partnership with NKF
 
Sunflower Paper Products commemorated its 5-year partnership with NKF with a mock cheque presentation and high tea at the NKF Head Office on 5 August 2004. Present was Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development YB Chew Mei Fun. YB Chew also visited patients on dialysis at the Berjaya-NKF Dialysis Centre. Sunflower corporate greeting cards has been a stable source of funds for NKF, raising RM37,065.70 in 2003. Over the 5 years, Sunflower contributed RM170,887.05. Our congratulations and gratitude to Sunflower for its generosity!
 
 
‘Think Before You Throw’ by Leo Club of Unitar
In an effort to create awareness about the benefits of recycling, Leo Club of Unitar held the ‘Think Before You Throw’ campaign from 9 July to 8 August 2004 at the Giant Hypermarket Kelana Jaya. Residents from the nearby housing area were encouraged to bring in their recyclables. Various contests were held each weekend involving the use of recyclable items such as old newspapers and greeting cards as well as flowers and twigs. Many thanks to the Leo Club of Unitar for their contribution of RM1,000.
 
 
More than 200 people attended a workshop on 15 Aug 2004 on ‘How To Use Feng Shui To Enhance Your Health’, conducted by Master Ooi Leng Chooi of the Dragon Geomancy House. An accountant by profession, Master Ooi led his attentive audience of English and Mandarin speakers through a wholesome approach on Feng Shui, by explaining the 5 basic elements, application of the compass and identification of a compatible conducive living environment. Participants left the Bintang Ballroom, Cititel Mid Valley, KL with a greater understanding that ‘Health is Wealth” while the needy kidney patients of NKF benefited by RM 26,275.
 

 
STRIKE '4' CHARITY 2004
 
 
On 29 Oct 2004, the Lions visited the NKF-Berjaya Dialysis Centre and presented a cheque for RM9,181.20 raised from the bowling competition which was held for the 5th time. Held at Cathay Bowl, Endah Parade, Seri Petaling on 22 August 2004, some 21 teams and 18 singles knocked over pins for a good cause.
 
During a press conference held on 11 June 2004 at Cathay Bowl, the organisers Lions Club of KL North received RM5,000 contribution from main sponsor AIA Co Ltd.
 
 
Touch A Life by Kumpulan Farmasi Vitacare
 
NKF received a dialysis machine worth RM40,000 from Kumpulan Farmasi Vitacare and Gillette in conjunction with Touch A Life 2004 charity drive. YB Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai, Deputy Minister of Information, was present to witness the presentation on 24 September 2004 at the Berjaya-NKF Dialysis Centre.
The charity drive, which ran from 29 May to 4 July 2004, rewarded donors with a discount card entitling them to discounts from 10% to 50% on participating brands at Farmasi Vitacare outlets nationwide, as well as free gifts.
The charity drive was launched by YB Dato’ Tan Chai Ho, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, on 29 May 2004 at Amcorp Mall.
 
 
 
Malaysians from all over the country made more than 9000 wishes on NKF ribbons in this charity ribbon project from 12 Mar to 9 May 2004. Their wishes were proudly displayed on a 3D heart-shaped prop at the NKF booth at Level 2, East Wing Concourse, Berjaya Times Square, KL from 24 Apr to 9 May 2004. The heart was a source of curiosity and attraction for the shoppers who never ceased to amaze us with their generosity and warmth. The event was a resounding success, raising more than RM50,000 from ribbon sales and donations from well-wishers. The closing ceremony which was held on 9 May at the same venue was graced by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, YB Datuk Tan Chai Ho and our generous sponsors.

Tupperware‘The Gift of Life’Charity Drive
A mock cheque presentation of RM125,000 was held on 3 Aug 2004 at Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel, graced by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Dept for National Unity and Integration YB Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili. Patient families and guests were treated to high tea after the ceremony. A clown entertained the children and the young at heart, much to the amusement of those watching.

NKF received RM40,000 for a dialysis machine from PROTON Holdings Bhd. Funds were raised during a gala dinner held in conjunction with the visit of the Norwich City Football Club to Malaysia.
