PATIENT DIALYSIS WELFARE FUND

In May 2005, a special fund of RM20,000 was established to assist patients with RM50 while waiting for the approval of the subsidy of RM50 from the Ministry of Health (MOH). Patients who are poor and deserving are considered for this assistance for three months or until the approval from MOH, whichever is earlier.

In March 2006 and August 2006, a further sum of RM30,000 and RM50,000 respectively were approved by the Board of Managers, to meet the needs of these patients without which they would not be able to continue with their dialysis treatment as their families could ill afford to pay RM110 per dialysis for their treatment. 65 patients benefited from this fund compared to 21 patients the previous year and the amount used to help these patients for year 2006 was RM78,400. From January 2007 up till 2007 25 dialysis patients have benefited from this fund.

PATIENT WELFARE FUND

There are patients who cannot afford to pay the RM50.00 even after getting the subsidy of RM50.00 from the MOH. This fund helps to pay for the dialysis treatment of RM20.00 per dialysis for period of 6 months for very poor patients who have very low income.

b. Blood Test Expenses
This Fund is to help very poor new patients to get their blood test result for HEP B, C and HIV faster and be admitted to NKF earlier.

c. Miscellaneous Expenses
This Fund is to help poor patients facing financial problems and loss due to floods, fire and other calamities, etc as emergency cover to overcome the immediate loss.

d. Contribution due to Death
This Fund also provides a small contribution due to death of a patient when staff of dialysis centre visit the family of deceased.
