CORE OBJECTIVES

 
In providing assistance to patients, the Welfare Unit plans a number of wide ranging programmes that benefit the patients individually and also their families and in some cases extends to school aid for children of patients on dialysis who are eligible:-

Assessment of the social and financial status of new applications with a view of recommending them for haemodialysis treatment;

Counsel patients and their families to deal and improve their emotional, social, psychological, physical and financial well-being that usually comes when one learns that he or she is suffering from chronic kidney disease;

Assessment of the social and financial status of new applications for subsidy from Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) to Automated Peritoneal Dialysis (APD) for school-going children under 20 years of age, under the Children Dialysis Fund;

To contact relevant agencies such as the hospital, social welfare department, the family etc to get more information about the social and financial background of cases staying outside the Klang Valley;

To investigate and process applications for subsidy of Epoetin injections, Hepatitis B vaccinations, small business ventures and study loan from the Patient Welfare Incentive Fund, financial aid of RM50 for dialysis treatment from the Patient  Dialysis Welfare Fund before the approval of government subsidy of RM50 from the Ministry of Health and school aid for children of poor deserving patients under the NKF Children Welfare Fund (Education);

To perform yearly review of all dialysis patients in NKF dialysis centres to ensure compliance with entry criteria and also on their current social and financial status;

To visit dialysis centres within and outside the Klang Valley at least once a year and also as and when the need arises to counsel patients on their social, financial, psychological and family problems;

To organize at least 5-6 meetings annually for the Patient Selection and Welfare Committee for approval of patients’ admission into the haemodialysis programme at NKF, financial assistance for dialysis treatment, business and study loan application, Epoetin injection, Hepatitis B vaccination, school aid and other welfare activities and assistance.
